The US and Israel have intensified their attacks on Iran and Lebanon, resulting in significant loss of life and widespread destruction. The conflict has sparked global concern, with the international community calling for an end to the violence.
The ongoing conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran has escalated, with both sides suffering heavy losses. The US and Israel have launched a series of airstrikes on Iranian targets, while Iran has retaliated with missile strikes on Israeli and US positions.
In Lebanon, Israeli forces have been accused of deliberately targeting medical workers and facilities, with at least 128 medical facilities and ambulances struck, resulting in the deaths of 40 healthcare workers. The Lebanese Health Ministry has condemned the attacks, calling them a ‘clear violation of international humanitarian law’.
The conflict has also had a significant impact on the global economy, with oil prices surging due to the disruption of Iranian oil exports. The US has imposed sanctions on Iranian oil, which some analysts predict could top $150 or even $200 per barrel if the war continues.
In other news, a mass funeral was held in the city of Minab for 165 schoolgirls and staff killed in a US-Israeli strike on a girls’ school. The attack has been widely condemned, with the UN special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory calling it an act of ‘vengeance and destructive intent’.
Meanwhile, in the US, a pilot and co-pilot were killed, and over 40 passengers and crew were injured, when an Air Canada Express plane collided with a fire truck at LaGuardia Airport. The incident has raised concerns about airline safety, particularly given the recent series of disasters under President Trump’s second term.
In Colorado, nearly 4,000 meatpacking workers have entered their fifth day on strike to protest unfair and dangerous labor conditions at JBS USA, the world’s largest meat producer. The strike has highlighted the struggles faced by immigrant workers in the industry, with many calling for better working conditions and higher wages.
As the college basketball tournament known as March Madness begins, immigration activists are calling on schools to ‘de-ICE’ the charter flights used to ferry around student athletes. The campaign is targeting the Miami-based charter company Global Crossing Airlines, which holds a $5 million annual contract to transport teams during the NCAA tournaments. GlobalX is also used to transport immigrants deported by ICE.
